Brunei Darussalam Government Scholarships to Foreign Students for the Academic Session 2009/2010

With His Majesty’s consent, the Government of Brunei Darussalam is offering annual scholarships under a special scholarship award scheme, commencing in 2009-10 academic session. Under this program following courses are being offered in various universities of Brunei Darussalam.

Introduction

With His Majesty’s consent, the Government of Brunei Darussalam is offering annual scholarships under a special scholarship award scheme, commencing in 2009-10 academic session. Under this program following courses are being offered in various universities of Brunei Darussalam:
• Bachelor Degree (Honors)
• Master Degree
• HND (Higher National Diploma)
• DN (Diploma in Nursing)
Objectives

The aim of the scholarship award is to provide students, with the opportunity to stay at University Brunei Darussalam [UBD], University Islam Sultan Sharif Ali [UNISSA], Institute of Technology Brunei [ITB] and Pengiron Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Balkiah College of Nursing [PAPRSBCN].

Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must be citizens of ASEAN, OIC, Commonwealth member countries and others and must be between the age of 18-25 ate the commencement of the academic session for which they are applying for admission. However, under exceptional case, the age limit requirement may be waived for candidates who are applying for Master programs at UBD.

Minimum Entry Qualification

Applicants for admission to first degree programs must satisfy the following minimum entry requirements: At least Credit Passes in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects, and at least three Advanced Level passes all at grade C or better or equivalent qualifications relevant to the degree program applied for (obtained within the last two years). For English Medium programs, at least a credit 6 in English Language at GCE Ordinary Level examination or the equivalent (e.g. a score of 550 and above in the TOEFL examination or an average score of 6.5 and above in the British Council IELTS obtained within the last two years.

For Malay-Medium programmer, at least a credit 6 in Malay Language at GCE Ordinary Level examination or an equivalent qualification in Malay Language recognized by the University Senate. For Bilingual programmers, at least a credit 6 in Malay Language and at least a pass in English Language at GCE Ordinary Level examination or the equivalent recognized by the University Senate. Applicants for the Master's degree programmer must hold a Bachelor's Degree (normally at least Second Class Honors) in the relevant discipline, where applicable, from a recognized institution or any equivalent qualification accepted by the University Senate and for English Medium programmers at least a Credit 6 in English Language at GCE Ordinary Level examination or the equivalent (e.g. a score of 550 and above in the TOEFL examination or an average score 6.5 and above in the British Council l.E.L.T.S. obtained within the last two years).

For Admission to UNISSA

Applicants for admission to first degree programmer must satisfy the following minimum entry requirements:-For Arabic-Medium degree programmer must have obtained the High School Certificate of Religious Education or its equivalent with an average grade of 'jayyid jiddan (very good)'.For English-Medium degree programmer must have obtained 3 GCE 'A' level passes in English medium subjects at grade C or better (obtained within the last two years); and at least a credit 6 in English Language at GCE Ordinary Level or grade C in IGCSE English (as a First Language) or an IELTS an average score of 6.5 or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550.For a degree programmer which has a major or a minor component in English-Medium, must have obtained GCE '0' level passes in Mathematics. The University may require applicants applying for admission to Arabic-Medium degree programmer to sit and pass an Arabic Language Test. Applicants may be required to sit and pass a University Entrance Test.5.2.2 Applicants for the Master's degree programmer must hold a Bachelor's Degree (normally at least Second Class Honors) or 'jayyid' in the relevant discipline. Evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the programmer must also be submitted. The University may require applicants to sit and pass an Arabic Language Test. The programmers can be undertaken either by research or coursework and dissertation. The Masters programmed by coursework and dissertation will only be offered if there are at least five (5) candidates registered for each of the programmes.5.2.3 Applicants for PhD programmers is normally a relevant Master's degree or its equivalent from institutions recognized by the University. Evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the programmed must also be submitted.

For admissions to ITB

At least Credit Passes in four GCE Ordinary Level subjects which must include Mathematics and one GCE Advanced Level (obtained within the last two years) or its equivalent relevant to the programmer applied for;ORa BTEC National Diploma or its equivalent in subjects relevant to the programmer applied for; and applicants must obtain at least a Credit Pass in English Language at GCE Ordinary Level examination or an average score of 6.0 and above in the British Council I.E.L.T.S. obtained within the last two years.

For admissions to PAPRSBCN

At least Credit Passes in five GCE Ordinary level obtained within the last two years. These should include: English or IELTS with an average score of 6.5MathematicsTwo of the following subjects namely Biology, Physics or Chemistry. Another English subject OR other qualifications which are deemed to be equivalent by the College.

Terms & Conditions
• The scholarship may not be held concurrently with any other award without the prior approval of the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the awarding body;
• The scholar may not undertake paid employment during the award or serve in the staff of their country’s representative in Brunei Darussalam;
• The Government of Brunei Darussalam will not be responsible for securing employment for the scholar after graduation;
• An applicant may be required to appear for an interview at such place(s) as may be determined by the institutions offering the programmers, and to sit a written examination to asses his / her proficiency in the English Language / Malay language / Arabic Language (where applicable);
• To abide with the rules and regulations of each individual institution;
• Successful applicants are required to undergo medical examination in Brunei Darussalam;
• The Government of Brunei Darussalam reserves the right to terminate the scholarship as recommended by the institutions as they found it deemed to be justifiable;
• Upon completion of the course, graduates are required to return to their home country with immediate effect;
• Successful applicants are recommended / advised to acquire travel and health insurance cover (24 hours cover) at their own expense for the whole duration of their stay here in Brunei Darussalam;
• Successful applicants should get a security clearance from their National Security Agency / Police (clear from civil and criminal record);
• Successful applicants are responsible to deposit an amount of money as determined and required by the immigration Department of Brunei Darussalam before a student pass can be issued upon reporting for enrolment at the offering institution.
Health
• Successful applicants are required to submit a Certificate of Medical Fitness from a registered medical practitioner to the Scholarships Section at the address given in paragraph 9. An award will only be confirmed / granted upon producing certificate of medical fitness. All charges for medical expenses to be borne by the applicant concerned.

2. Fill the Application forms very neatly, using the capital letters.
3. Attached Rs.300/- Bank Draft / Pay Order drawn in favor of D.G Finance HEC, (Non Refundable), as application processing fee.
4. Kindly note that HEC is the authorized agency who would send nomination from Pakistan, hence you should not send application directly to Brunei. Last Date for receipt of application in HEC is 10 February, 2009. Late received applications will NOT be entertained.
